Former Minnesota Senator Al Franken appeared on "The Daily Show" in 2020 to discuss the potential TikTok ban. He expressed his concerns about the app and its ties to the Chinese government, stating that it was not just about data privacy but also about the potential for censorship and propaganda.


Ultimately, the Trump administration issued an executive order to ban TikTok, but the ban was blocked by a federal judge in December 2020. The Biden administration later revoked the executive order and replaced it with a new one that ordered a security review of TikTok and other Chinese-owned apps. As of now, TikTok is still available in the United States.
